We've covered a wide range of pharmacy apps recently, from those offered by major pharmacies like Walgreens to apps that help find better medication prices like Blink Health or GoodRx.
GetMyRx is a really interesting concept: a "Digital Pharmacy Concierge". Users enter prescription information, then have their medications delivered to the home or filled at a local pharmacy for pickup. There are no delivery charges -- patients pay only their normal co-pay for the prescription. Pharmacy services are provided by local, independent pharmacies that sign a contract and pay a fee to GetMyRx in order to be listed in the app.
Patients can enter a new prescription by scanning a paper copy or entering information on a prescription that was already sent to the pharmacy by the provider's office. Insurance cards may be scanned to include information for the pharmacist to process the prescription. It appears from the website that payment is arranged directly through the pharmacy, though it's not clear how this works in the app. Patients without insurance may utilize the service as well, though other apps like GoodRx may be a better option for uninsured patients.
Some downsides to the app include a broken link to the FAQ and limited availability of the service in many areas. Though the website states users in 35 states and 3,000 zip codes can access the service, this information is not readily accessible in the app itself.
GetMyRx is approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) as an internet pharmacy with limited services. This allows GetMyRx to advertise on Google, Bing, and Yahoo and offers some credibility to the internet pharmacies that apply.
Likes:
- Free prescription delivery service
- Easy to use the app
- NABP registration
Dislikes:
- Typos and broken links in the app
- Not widely available outside of major metropolitan areas
- Referral programs always seem to make apps appear less credible
Overall:
GetMyRx is a great idea, but the execution could stand some significant improvement. Patients who are post-op or unable to get around easily would definitely benefit from the service. The app has some technical issues and information on payment and areas served only seemed to be available by accessing the website. The website indicates a plan for expansion of services throughout the country over time. It's not an app that's going to work for everyone right now, but is certainly one to watch for the future.
